Old San Francisco Mint Alert

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

Over the next 60 days, the Old Mint Task Force will be deciding which proposal to accept and grant a 66 year lease for use and development of the Old San Francisco Mint. If you agree that the Numismatic Community should have a major portion, if not the entire Old Mint building as a Gold Rush and Mint Museum, we must get our message to the proper people to support a significantly modified San Francisco Museum proposal which is now being considered. Our voice will be only one of many voices with an interest in the future of this facility. WE NEED YOU AND ALL YOUR FRIENDS TO WRITE LETTERS OR EMAIL. Here are some of the points that you should stress to the officials in San Francisco:

  1. The museum should be an important National Gold Rush (there are no others) and Mint Museum.
  2. It would be of tremendous educational benefit for children, teachers and visitors.
  3. That you would be willing to loan appropriate exhibits to such a Museum.
  4. That you would help in promoting the Museum, visiting it, and encouraging other to do the same.
  5. That you would support a U.S. Commemorative Coin program to help raise funds for such a Museum, if it was used primarily as a Gold Rush and Mint Museum.
  6. That you would be willing to serve as a volunteer in the operation of such a Museum.
  7. Mention if you have any particular expertise that you would offer to the planning an operation of such a Museum.

Also, urge your local, regional and state numismatic organizations to write letters of support for such a Museum. Let your voice be heard! Letters should be addressed as follows:

Old Mint Task Force
c/o Ms. Hala Hijazi
Project Manager of the Mayor's Office of Economic Development

THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING...

In order to bring this about, adequate funds will have to be raised, sponsors for each of the rooms found, and perhaps some endowments established. We need support from both Republicans and Democrats and from the private sector, too. If you have any "connections", please let us know. There will be more to come as events take place in San Francisco. Please call or email me at don@kagins.com with any suggestions.

Thank you,
